PSHE education is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work in modern Britain. PSHE education is also embedded throughout other curriculum areas such as Science and ICT.
From September 2020, Health Education and Relationships Education will becomes statutory in all schools across the UK.
Our framework for Personal, Social and Health Education (P.S.H.E.) reflects the school ethos and demonstrates and encourages the following moral values:
respect for self
respect for others
responsibility for our own actions
responsibility for our family, friends, school and wider community
Regular class discussion – Circle Time – enables us to articulate and reinforce these values and what is important to us. We wish to foster self-awareness, responsibility, self control and co-operation based on respect for the feelings of others.
Children have PSHE lessons from Year 1 to Year 6. Please click the following link to see the medium term curriculum plan for PSHE *click here*. Our scheme of work is based on the work of the PSHE Association.
Other key PSHE concepts and values are taught in the EYFS through their EYFS curriculum which can be found here.
Intent
At Kensworth CE Academy PSHE education is written alongside the National Curriculum, 2014, it reflects the rapidly changing world in which our pupils live and learn. Programmes of Study support pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare them for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. Pupils are also taught about safeguarding, including online learning through teaching and learning opportunities as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.
At Kensworth we provide learning opportunities for all children based on the PSHE Association Framework. We aim to deliver high quality PSHE teaching, contributing to the pupils’ personal development enabling them to build their confidence, resilience and self-esteem, and to identify and manage risk, make informed choices and understand what influences their decisions. Alongside enabling the pupils to recognise, accept and shape their identifies, to understand and accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings. To develop an understanding of themselves, empathy and the ability to work with others will help pupils to form and maintain good relationships, develop essential skills for future employability and better enjoy and manage their lives.
We aim to provide a planned, developmental programme of learning through which the pupils acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives now and in the future.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
As of September 2020 , The Department of Education have made some changes with regard to the implementation of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education in Primary schools. The curriculum document can be found here.
Here at Kensworth CE Academy we want our pupils to feel prepared and equipped for their journey in life through secondary school particularly and then into the wider community. We have made plans and preparations for the implementations of this new curriculum and adapted it to meet the needs of our pupils. The new RSE policy can be found on the policies page of the website, or through this link. Here
Sex education at Kensworth is a term used for all the learning we need in order to gain understanding of our own bodies, instincts and feelings in order to be prepared for the responsibilities and joys of permanent relationships in the future. As a church school, we believe that sex education should be presented within a framework that embraces Christian values, love, faithfulness and forgiveness. Sex education is mostly taught through the science curriculum as part of the Human Body. Parents are informed about PSHE lessons that include sex education and have the right to withdraw their child from lessons which are not part of the science curriculum.
