Spring 2021 Theme |
'Revolution'
This term our theme is called Revolution and the children will be immersed in the Victorian era. They will learn about life in Victorian times developing their knowledge about Victorian culture, including significant people and inventions of the time. ![]() ‘Rainbow-curriculum’
We fully recognise that as we welcomed back the children, after such a long period out of the classroom for very many of our pupils, that there was an important and vital need to take time to rebuild a sense of safety, and belonging, relationships with peers and staff, and to begin to find ways to understand and process what has been happening. Kensworth CE Academy’s ‘Rainbow-curriculum’ for the re-integration to school of all our learners, followed guidelines and advice built on research around recovery following trauma. We commenced with a whole school focus on the book, 'Here We Are,' as part of our Rainbow Curriculum. Curriculum Maps 2020/21 |

'Fallen Fields' The second theme for this half term is Fallen Fields. Known as 'the war to end all wars' the First World War was a conflict that had a devastating effect on millions of people across the world. Children will investigate what started this global tragedy? What was life like for families on the home front as they waited for news of loved ones who were 'missing in action'? How did the soldiers endure the terrible conditions in the trenches? How was a fragile peace finally achieved? |
Value this half term: Justice
Isaiah 1.17
'Learn to do right. Seek justice.'
If your child shows the value at home, let us know so this can be celebrated in school.
Homework
Homework is set on a Friday and is due in on the following Thursday. Homework will be posted on Class Dojo portfolios for children to complete and return online. It will link to learning from the week in English and Maths.
A creative homework grid will also be sent home at the beginning of each term, focusing on our 'theme', for Autumn 2 Fallen Fields. Your child can choose from the many activities to complete over the half term.
We encourage the children to develop their love of reading both in and out of school. Each child will have reading passport and be encouraged to read regularly.
When it comes to tackling homework, think: How do you eat a cake? A chunk at a time!
Why not try spreading homework out over the week. Children will receive dojo points for homework completion.
PE days for Hornbeam Class are Tuesday and Friday.
For this term, the children should come to school wearing their PE kit. Please see the uniform policy to ensure your child has the correct, named PE uniform. PE is taught by a qualified Sports Coach.
French is taught on Tuesday a qualified French Teacher.

Thought for the term:
“Don't Just
Don't just learn, experience.
Don't just read, absorb.
Don't just change, transform.
Don't just relate, advocate.
Don't just promise, prove.
Don't just criticize, encourage.
Don't just think, ponder.
Don't just take, give.
Don't just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don't just hear, listen.
Don't just talk, act.
Don't just tell, show.
Don't just exist, live.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
Anti-Bullying: Will you 'Choose Respect'?
This year's anti-bullying campaign theme is 'Choose Respect'. How can we show respect?
*Asking before we borrow something
*Being kind to someone even if we are in a mad mood
*Agreeing to disagree when we are arguing with someone
*Waiting to someone has finished speaking before speaking ourselves
*If we have nothing nice to say, we don't say anything
Remember, sometimes it is not always what we say - it is how we say it!
If you feel you are being bullied, please tell. Parents, if you think your child is being bullied, please report it. This advice is from the Anti-Bullying Alliance and one of it's partners, the Diana Award.
